To facilitate access and evaluation of rdiffweb to newcomers, we’ve created a configuration file for Vagrant. Vagrant is a tool that easily creates a virtual machine and run a provisioning routine. For more information, visit the Vagrant’s website. In short, with this tool it is possible to have rdiffweb install within 5 minutes in a VM so you can test it!

How to do?

First, install Vagrant on your workstation.

Next, download the vagrant-rdiffweb project from github and extract files from the archive.

wget https://github.com/ikus060/vagrant-rdiffweb/archive/master.tar.gz
tar -zxvf master.tar.gz

Finally, start Vagrant to generate a new virtual machine.

up vagrant

When the process is finished, open your web browser to http://localhost:8080/. You should see the login page rdiffweb. Use the user name and the default password: admin / admin123.

What is it used for?

This vagrant project may seam futile. Personally, it will allow me to test in an automated way the installation and deployment of rdiffweb to make sure it still works. Maybe, we will add other configurations to install rdiffweb on different platforms: Jessie Debian, Debian Wheezy, RedHat, SuSE, etc.
